LO4

At the beginning of the semester, my peer review was very poor.  This was mostly due to the fact that I was not confident in my own writing abilities you perceive them to be extremely poor. As the semester went on and my own writing began to improve I began to feel more comfortable peer-reviewing others’ papers.  At the beginning of the year, most of my peer review comments consisted mostly of me making compliments or trying to find small grammatical errors to fix.  Something where I would know hundred percent that this was a mistake and not something I perceived to be a mistake.   Over this change towards the end of the semester, a good example of this is when I peer-reviewed Ryan Mosscrop’s life in the pandemic narrative.  When I peered and reviewed his narrative I went deep in trying to see if there was anything I could do to help him improve. Whereas at the beginning of the semester I may have just simply stated that he did a good job and very little else this time I actually attempted to see if I could find anything that could be fixed.  One such comment I wrote was that ” Might want to at least mention the Spanish Flu Pandemic somewhere in this paragraph, just so you don’t have to add another paragraph of context later on, which may come off as awkward.” While this might not seem like much the fact that I started transitioning to actually recommending people put stuff in certain places with a huge step up for me.   Another good comment I wrote was ” May want to take this out if its the only time elderly people are mentioned, sounds a little awkward, to mention then just disregard for the rest of the essay.”   I hope to show with these comments that I improve my writing ability in my peer review ability instead of going in simply with the mindset of trying to find small errors that I knew I could fix without giving too much feedback as I was afraid of looking stupid. I instead decided to actually go in and see if I could find anything I believed could be fixed regardless of whether or not I was wrong. With the improvement of my own writing ability and this newfound attitude, I believe I was able to offer some very helpful comments to some of my other classmates.
